GPS & Customer Tracking
See where your trucks are in real time, and give customers a private link to follow their shipment without logging in.
How GPS tracking works
- A driver with an app login taps Start trip on a load in the Optrix Driver app and allows location access.
- While the load is In Transit, the app sends its position about once a minute. It keeps working in the background and shows a notification saying location is being shared. Positions are sent in batches, so short signal drops don't lose data.
- Location sharing stops automatically when the driver completes the delivery.
Only drivers using the app are tracked, and only while a trip is under way. GPS is never collected before the trip starts or after delivery.
Where you see it
- Load page: a map with the latest position, the route travelled so far, and when the last update was received.
- Shipment page: the same live map for the load carrying the shipment.
- Driver Pay: the GPS trail is used to work out distance when a load has no distance entered.
Maps use OpenStreetMap. For accurate maps and distances, add latitude and longitude to your Locations.
Customer tracking links
Each shipment can have a private tracking page, for example yourcompany.optrixtms.com/track/…. Anyone with the link can open it without logging in.
- Open the shipment and find the Customer tracking link card.
- Click Create tracking link.
- Click Copy to share it yourself, Email to to send it to the customer contact, or enter another email address and click Send.
Once a link exists, the customer's automatic status emails include a Track your shipment button that opens it.
What the customer sees
- Shipment number and current status.
- A 5-step progress bar: Booked, Picked Up, In Transit, Out for Delivery, Delivered.
- Origin and destination cities, plus planned and actual dates.
- A live map, but only while the shipment is moving.
What the customer never sees
- Prices, charges or costs.
- Internal notes.
- Driver name, phone number or vehicle.
- Full street addresses.
Controlling the link
- New link replaces the link. The old link stops working immediately.
- Turn off disables tracking for the shipment. Anyone with the link sees nothing.
Treat links like passwords: anyone who has the link can see the shipment's progress. If a link is forwarded to the wrong person, click New link.
